The Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference All-Sports Trophy has returned to Geneseo.

The 2013 Northern Illinois Big 12 All-Conference selections for the West Division were recently announced with five Leafs receiving honors. Senior Michael Daniels and juniors Rayce Singbush and Billy Converse were All-Conference Team selections. Senior Zach Riffe and junior Adam Stenzel received honorable mention recognition.

Geneseo graduate Curt Jensen competed in the Chicagoland Throw Series June 8 as he attempts to qualify for the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Jensen placed fifth among the male unattached competitors with a throw of 64-1 3/4 and eighth overall, which makes him a provisional qualifier for the championships. The 2013 Maple City 4 Run is scheduled for 8 a.m. June 15 at Geneseo High School. The children's races will begin at 9 a.m. on the high school track.

The Geneseo High School football program will host its Green Machine/Youth Football Camp for children in grades 5-7 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. July 8 to July 12 at the GHS football practice fields. Check-in for camp will be from 9:30 a.m.-9:50 a.m. on the first day. Campers are asked to wear regular workout gear and football shoes or tennis shoes. Helmets will be provided. The Geneseo Soccer Club’s U14 Revolution soccer team claimed the U14 girls’ championship at the 2013 Oswego Soccer Classic. The squad beat several teams including one of Illinois’s top U14 teams by a 2-1 score. The Geneseo boys' track and field team recognized three new school record holders from this season at its banquet. New record holders include: A.J. Marmion in the discus with a throw of 173-10, Alex Platz in the pole vault as he cleared 14-3 and Will Daniels set a new freshman school record in the high jump at 6-1 1/2.

The Geneseo boys' track team was recently honored at its end-of-the-season banquet. Receiving individual awards were Josh Beard, Most Valuable Athlete; Gage Sears, Most Improved Athlete; and Ethan Reschke, Most Inspirational Athlete. Top Dog Awards went to freshman Will Daniels, sophomore Josh Beard, junior Jordan Mielke and senior Alex Platz.

The Annawan track and field team brought home medals in five events from the IESA State Meet May 10-11. Seventh grader Ben Buresh placed eighth in the 400-m dash and sixth in the shot put; seventh grader Jayde VanHyfte took second in the long jump and fifth in the shot put; and the seventh grade 4x100-m relay of VanHyfte, Kendall Gripp, Monika Pantha and Kaley Jackson finished in third.

The Friends of the Canal will hold their monthly Hike the Canal outing June 9. The hike will be on the feeder canal from Bridge 59 to Bridge 62. Hikers are to meet at Bridge 56 at 1:30 p.m. to travel to Bridge 62 where hikers will be shuttled to Bridge 59 to begin the hike. Geneseo graduate Curt Jensen, who redshirted this season for the Illinois State University men’s track and field team, has been competing unattached and threw a new personal record of 64-5 in the shot put. He is currently ranked in the outdoor season, 12th in the U.S. and 38th in the world. He finished the indoor season ranked 24th in the U.S. and 60th in the world with a mark of 63 3/4. He will be competing in the Chicagoland Throws Series this weekend.

Geneseo's Meghan Wethington was awarded with Augustana's Hardest Worker Award for the women's tennis team this season. Wethington, a senior, ended her career with a singles' record of 32-33 and a doubles' record of 43-35.

Kewanee's Jason Henkins was the overall winner of the Carol M. Guthrie Memorial 5K Run June 2 in Annawan with a time of 16 minutes and 51 seconds. Geneseo's Kelley Timmerman was the first female to cross the finish line in 20:12.

Geneseo's boys' basketball camp starts today and will run through June 7. Camp times for June 3-6 are as follows: 3rd-4th grade 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m.; 5th-6th grade 10 a.m.-noon; and 7th-8th grade 12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. Camp times for June 7 are: 3rd-4th grade 8:30 a.m.-10 a.m.; 5th-6th grade 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. and 7th-8th grade 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

A free tennis play day for children in grades K-8 will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. June 2 at the Richmond Hill Tennis Courts.

Geneseo soccer coach Ian Kline will host a summer soccer camp July 15-18 behind the Geneseo Middle School.
