          The Geneseo High School football program will host its Green Machine/Youth Football Camp for children in grades 5-7 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. July 8 to July 12 at the GHS football practice fields. Check-in for camp will be from 9:30 a.m.-9:50 a.m. on the first day. Campers are asked to wear regular workout gear and football shoes or tennis shoes. Helmets will be provided.           The Friends of the Canal will hold their monthly Hike the Canal outing June 9. The hike will be on the feeder canal from Bridge 59 to Bridge 62. Hikers are to meet at Bridge 56 at 1:30 p.m. to travel to Bridge 62 where hikers will be shuttled to Bridge 59 to begin the hike.         • Jensen sets personal record Jun. 4, 2013
          Geneseo graduate Curt Jensen, who redshirted this season for the Illinois State University men’s track and field team, has been competing unattached and threw a new personal record of 64-5 in the shot put. He is currently ranked in the outdoor season, 12th in the U.S. and 38th in the world. He finished the indoor season ranked 24th in the U.S. and 60th in the world with a mark of 63 3/4. He will be competing in the Chicagoland Throws Series this weekend.

          Geneseo's Meghan Wethington was awarded with Augustana's Hardest Worker Award for the women's tennis team this season. Wethington, a senior, ended her career with a singles' record of 32-33 and a doubles' record of 43-35.

          Kewanee's Jason Henkins was the overall winner of the Carol M. Guthrie Memorial 5K Run June 2 in Annawan with a time of 16 minutes and 51 seconds. Geneseo's Kelley Timmerman was the first female to cross the finish line in 20:12.

          Geneseo's boys' basketball camp starts today and will run through June 7. Camp times for June 3-6 are as follows: 3rd-4th grade 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m.; 5th-6th grade 10 a.m.-noon; and 7th-8th grade 12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. Camp times for June 7 are: 3rd-4th grade 8:30 a.m.-10 a.m.; 5th-6th grade 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. and 7th-8th grade 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

          The May 22 semifinal regional contest between Geneseo and Galesburg was what a postseason baseball game should be with neither team willing to throw in the towel.It took nine innings to declare a winner when Galesburg plated the winning run on a passed ball at home plate in the bottom of the ninth to defeat Geneseo, 2-1.
