Thomas Lee Massingill, 78, of Colona, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2008, at his home. Funeral services were held Oct. 28, at Grace United Methodist Church, Geneseo. The Rev. John Davis officiated. Burial was in Liberty Cemetery, Atkinson. Visitation was held Oct. 27, at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Geneseo. Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church.

He was born Oct. 1, 1930,  in Geneseo, the son of Samuel I. and Grace (Munter) Massingill. He graduated from Geneseo High School in 1948. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1949 to 1953, serving aboard the U.S.S. Newport News CA-148 Heavy Cruiser. He married Clarice Egert July 10, 1955, in Geneseo. He had a small farm in the Geneseo area which he farmed for many years. He also had worked for over 10 years for Ametek where he served as a credit union director. He was a licensed plumber for over 50 years. He worked for many area plumbing shops before opening his own business, Tom’s Plumbing and Heating which he operated for 25 years. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Clarice; a brother and sister-in-law, Ervin and Carol Massingill of Prophetstown; a sister, Betty Gibson of Atkinson; a sister-in-law, Gayle Weber of Geneseo, and many treasured nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Mark, in 1975.
