Arthur G. Guyer, 88, of Geneseo, died Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Hammond-Henry Hospital Skilled Care Unit. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 23, at Grace United Methodist Church, Geneseo. The Rev. John Davis officiated. Burial was in Rock Island Memorial Park, Rock Island. Visitation was held Monday, June 22, at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Geneseo. Memorials may be made to Crippled Children’s Fund.

He was born Sept. 21, 1920, in Andalusia Township, Rock Island County, the son of Glen and Matilda Amelia (Schmidt) Guyer. He attended school in Andalusia Township. He married Barbara Bayless Nov. 23, 1974, in Polo. He had farmed in rural Rock Island County until his retirement in October 1988, when he and his wife moved to Rock Island. They later moved to Geneseo in 1994. He had been a member and past master of Andalusia Lodge 516 A.F.&A.M., member of Moline Consistory and Mohammed Shrine, Peoria. He was also a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Rock Island Farm Bureau. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, golfing and dancing.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; a son and spouse, Rodger and Colleen Bayless of Dahinda; a daughter, Rhonda Cater of Cambridge; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a nephew, Robert Crawford of Reynolds; a niece, Joyce Freymuth of Illinois City, and several great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Crawford; his parents, and a granddaughter, Melissa.
