Leslie E. Conrad, 85, of rural Lynn Center, died Sunday, June 21, 2009, at Hillcrest Home, rural Geneseo. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service was held Thursday, June 25, at the Augustana Lutheran Church, Andover. Inurnment took place at the Western Township Cemetery, Orion. Visitation was held Wednesday, June 24, at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, with Masonic Services included. Memorials may be made to the Augustana Lutheran Church or Hillcrest Home.

He was born April 26, 1924, in Hillsdale, the son of Clarence and Clara (Brandt) Conrad. The family moved to the Lynn Center area in 1936 and he graduated from?Orion High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Mary Graf Sept. 2, 1977, in Andover. She died July 10, 2005. He was in the farming and trucking business in his earlier years and then worked for the State of Illinois in highway maintenance until retiring in August of 1991. He was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church; the Orion American Legion Post 255, where he was a 50-year member; the Sherman Lodge No. 535, AF & AM, Orion, where he was a 50-year member; the Moline Consistory,, and the Kaaba Shrine, Davenport, Iowa, where he had been an Ambassador at Large. He was a former member of the VFW Post No. 143 in Orion and was a member of the Davenport Amateur Radio Club. His call letters were N09X. He was also a member of the “Old Bull Shipper’s Association”.

Survivors include a daughter and her friend, Sharon McFarlin and Tom Durbin of East Moline; a son and spouse, Joel and Vickie Conrad of Geneseo; five grandchildren, James Coulter, Jennifer Moulton, Joanne Barrera, Noah Conrad and Clayton Conrad; a stepgranddaughter, Julie Wruck; a stepgrandson, Gary Soderstrom; two great-grandchildren, and a stepgreat-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
