Larry L. Swanson, 73, of Geneseo, died Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo. Memorial services celebrating his life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at First Lutheran Church, Geneseo. The Rev. Arthur Bergren will officiate. Military honors will be accorded following the services by the Don Cherry VFW Post No. 5083. Inurnment will be in the Manlius Cemetery. Visitation was Thursday, Jan. 28, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Vandemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Geneseo. Per his request, cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church or Geneseo Humane Society.

He was born Feb. 20, 1936, in Andover, the son of Carl D. and Mayme (Abramson) Swanson. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force from 1953 until 1957. He married Judy A. Allen Feb. 15, 1959, at First Lutheran Church, Geneseo. He had been employed as a supervisor at John Deere Distribution Service Center for 23 years, retiring in 1987. Following his retirement he was employed for Edwards Ready Mix Co., as the Cambridge plant manager and salesman, for 13 years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Don Cherry VFW Post No. 5083, and was past master of Stewart Masonic Lodge 92 AF&AM. He had served on the Geneseo City Council for 16 years. He also had served on the Zoning Board of Appeals, Community Development Board, and the Public Safety Board. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and doing yard work.

Survivors include his wife, Judy; three sons and spouses, Greg and Traci Swanson of Davenport, Iowa, Tim and Cindy Swanson of Geneseo and Kent and Kristi Swanson of Geneseo; six grandsons, Nate, Clay, Finnegan, Callum, Brogan and Declan Swanson; four sisters and spouses, Linda and Stan Storm of Geneseo, Sharon and Gene Hulick of Kewanee, Lila and Elwyn Borgren of Geneseo and Gloria Hepner of Cambridge; three brothers and spouses, Darrell and Julie Swanson of Geneseo, Everett and Jane Swanson of Geneseo, and Marvin and Zaretta Swanson of Cambridge; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, L. Merle Swanson; a brother, Forrest; a sister, Jane, and a stepbrother, Roger Christiance.
