  • Raymond L. Nowland, 49, of Geneseo, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, at the Hillsdale Elevator, Geneseo, as a result of a grain bin accident. Funeral services celebrating his life were held Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Vandemore Funeral Home Ltd., Geneseo. The Rev. Justin Nowland officiated. Burial was in North Cemetery, Geneseo, where military honors were accorded by Don Cherry Geneseo VFW Post No. 5083. Visitation was held Tuesday, Aug. 31, and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Raymond Nowland Memorial Fund.
    He was born Dec. 16, 1960, in Nampa, Idaho, the son of Norman Ray and Iona (Smith) Nowland. He was a 1979 graduate of Nampa High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1979 to 1984 and then re-enlisted into the National Guard. He married Stephanie L. Hardy Nov. 8, 1986, in Nampa. He was currently working at Hillsdale Elevator and had for the past seven years. Previously he had worked for Geneseo Feed and Grain and IBP, Joslin. He was a member of Church of Christ, Davenport, Iowa, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles 2103. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and football.
    Survivors include his wife, Stephanie; his mother, Iona Nowland of Nampa; two daughters, Alicia Scott of Caldwell, Idaho and Shannon Nowland of Geneseo; three sons and spouse, Justin and Louisa Nowland of Longbeach, Calif., Jeffrey Nowland of Geneseo and Stephen Nowland of Geneseo; five grandchildren, Cindy and Kelly Nowland,  and Jenica, Devon and Jonathon Scott; a sister, Tammy Nowland of Nampa; four brothers and spouses, William Nowland of Middleton, Idaho, Terry and Tracy Nowland of Vine Grove, Ky., Keith and Susan Nowland of Castlerock, Colo., and Kent and Sonya Nowland of Twin Falls, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.
