Hannelore Bennington, 69, of Lacon, died Monday, March 7, 2011, at her home. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service was held Friday, March 11, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lacon. Fr. Thomas Mizeur officiated. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Home, Lacon.


Hannelore Bennington, 69, of Lacon, died Monday, March 7, 2011, at her home. Cremation rites have been accorded. She was born Sept. 8, 1941, in Olbersdorf, Germany, the daughter of Hans and Stefanie (Hirschbrich) Arta. She married James Bennington July 7, 1965, in Wiesbaden, Biebrich, Germany. She was a homemaker and a member of the Lacon-Sparland Methodist Quilters group. She was proud of becoming a United States citizen and considered it a great honor to vote. She was full of energy, very artistic, loved animals, gardening, quilting, traveling (Vega$), shopping, spending time with family and playing cards with all of her friends at the Happiness Tenter in Toluca.

Survivors include her husband; two sons and spouses, Brick and Amy Bennington of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Bud and Brigitte Bennington of Lacon; two daughters and spouses, Billie Jo and Don Sandoz of Rosemount, Minn. and Bonnie and Scott Schwaegler of Anamosa, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Tyler, Ben and Sam Sandoz, Jacob, Katie and Allie Schwaegler, and Brittany, Amber and Kelsey Bennington; two sisters and spouses, Gudrun and Hermann Abesser of Austria and Eviline and Peter Gieske of Berlin, Germany; one brother-in-law, Bernd Braun of Berlin, and her beloved cat, Maddie. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Ingrid Braun.
