Duane J. VerKruyse, 49, of Annawan, died Sunday, March 20, 2011, at Hillcrest Home, Geneseo. Funeral services were held Thursday, March 24, at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Annawan. Visitation was held Wednesday, March 23, at the funeral home. Cremation took place after the service. Memorials may be made to the Duane VerKruyse Memorial Fund.

He was born Oct. 5, 1961, in Kewanee, the son of Donald Joseph and Judith Ann (Phelps) VerKruyse, Sr. He was educated in Annawan schools and had worked at Pine Trailer, Kewanee, Kewanee Farm Equipment and also at Brave Industries, Annawan. He loved fishing, tinkering in his garage, yard work, spending time with his grandchildren, and attending backyard parties. He was grandpa to all nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Survivors include his lifetime partner, Sharon VerKruyse of Annawan; his parents, Don and Linda VerKruyse of Farmington, Iowa, and Judith Jones of Mineral and the late Bernard Jones; siblings, David and Tammy VerKruyse of Annawan, Donna VerKruyse of Mineral, Darlene Hernblom of Galesburg, Donald (Sandy) VerKruyse, Jr. of Burlington, Iowa, Julie Lofgren of Lakeland, Fla., Karen Cordrey of Kewanee, John Jones of Mineral, Davette and Chuck Malufka of Annawan, Melanie and Louie Opsal of Geneseo, Tim (Sue) VanOpdorp of DeWitt, Iowa, Walkie VanOpdorp of Annawan, Cindy VanOpdorp (Karen) of Geneseo, and Laura and Shawn Richmond of Fairfield, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and a grandson, Kyle.
