Paul F. Hilger, 77, of Prophetstown, died Thursday, May 12, at his home, surrounded by family. Funeral services celebrating his life were held Monday, May 16, at the Zion United Methodist Church, Hooppole. The Rev. Dan Wright officiated. Burial was in Hooppole Cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday, May 15, at Vandemore Funeral Home Ltd., Atkinson. Memorials may be made to the Zion United Methodist Church or Trinity Pathway Hospice.

He was born April 5, 1934, in Sterling, the son of Henry and Margaret (Wiederhold) Hilger. He was a graduate of Annawan High School. He married Elaine M. DeCraene Oct. 4, 1952, at Sacred Heart, Annawan. He was a lifelong farmer in rural Prophetstown. He enjoyed collecting old 2 cylinder John Deere tractors and restoring them. He also created junk art and enjoyed trains. He was also an avid flower and vegetable gardener.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine; two daughters and spouse, Evonne Cox of Hooppole and Evette and Ken VonHolten of Rock Falls; a son and spouse, Henry and Tracy Hilger of Hooppole; six grandchildren, Ben, Matt and Nate Sandrock, Nikki Swift, Emily Wolf, and Abby House, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
