The 2011 Christmas Walk, previously known as the “Victorian Walk” will be Dec. 10 in downtown Geneseo.
This year’s walk will feature a lighted parade. The parade will start at 5 p.m. on the north side of the railroad tracks on State Street and conclude in front of the Geneseo Historical Museum.
The parade will feature a variety of lighted entries, created by professionals and amateurs.
At 5:30 p.m., following the parade, Geneseo’s official Christmas tree will be lit.
Though the traditional “living windows” will be showcased from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in downtown Geneseo, the 2011 Christmas Walk features all-day activities. The theme of the 2011 Christmas Walk is “Family Traditions.”
An “Everything Christmas” indoor market will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Geneseo Community Center.
In addition to baked goods, the event will feature handmade holiday products.
At noon, the first 5K Jingle Bell?Run will kick off at the former Geneseo Public?Library location on State Street.
As part of the race packet, runners will receive a stocking cap and a set of jingle bells for their shoes. Winners will receive ornaments.
Awards also will be presented to the best costumed participants.
Local elementary school choirs will perform at 2:30 p.m., 3 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. at First United Methodist Church.
Additional Christmas Walk afternoon activities scheduled to occur between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Dec. 10 include alpaca visits, photos with the Grinch and Buddy the Elf, craft projects, storytelling and more.
In the evening, food will be available at First Presbyterian, First United Methodist, First Lutheran, First Congregational and Concordia Lutheran churches.
The Moline Boys Choir will perform at 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at Concordia Lutheran, and members of First United Methodist will host the “Walk to Bethlehem” from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Central Theater in downtown Geneseo will feature holiday specials from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., the Madrigal Singers at 6:15 p.m. and a featured movie at 8 p.m.
Cat White will tell stories at the Stone and Palmgren law offices from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the Geneseo Community?Center will host a “jingle bell skate” from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The Geneseo Historical Museum will be open from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. for tours.
Trackside?Liquors will offer wine and beer tasting during Christmas Walk.
