As the Geneseo boys’ basketball team looked to earn its second conference victory of the season Feb. 7, the Leafs battled with visiting conference foe Dixon and emerged with a 52-47 win.
Dixon grabbed the early one-point lead in the first quarter, 10-9 and managed to hold on to that one-point advantage at the half, 20-19.
Both squads scored 10 points in the second quarter.
The Leafs gained control of the game in the third quarter as they posted 13 points to Dixon’s eight to take the 32-28 lead.
Geneseo put up 20 points in the fourth quarter to seal the victory, while Dixon attempted to steal the win with a 19-point fourth quarter.
Landon Hoon and Jordan Starkey paced the Leafs’ offense as both players scored in double figures.
Hoon led the way with 13 points, as he knocked down four shots from the field and five free throws, while Starkey chipped in 11 as he hit four field goals and went 3-for-4 from the line.
Drew DeCap added nine points of his own as he drained two shots from beyond the arc, a field goal and a free throw, while Alec Cheek also raked in nine points as he went a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line and also had two field goals.
JJ Rivera and Austin Frank both finished the night with four points, as they scored on two field goals apiece while Luke Snyder hit a field goal for his two points.
The Leafs (4-15 overall and 2-4 in the NIB?12) will host Streator at 7:30 p.m. tonight, followed by a road match up with Ottawa at 6 p.m. Feb. 11.
