The Geneseo girls’ track and field team captured the Lady Leafs’ first accolades of the season as they earned the NIB 12 indoor conference title March 17 in Sterling.

“I am really happy. It is a good position to be in,” said head coach Phil Paulson of his team’s indoor conference title. “It is a good barometer and a good test to see where we are at.”

Darrian?Hartman and Kaci?Storm helped lead the Lady?Leafs to the championship with conference titles in the pole vault and 55-meter hurdles. Hartman won the pole vault, clearing 10-3, while Storm won the 55-m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 8.89 seconds.

Jamie DeFauw nabbed a second-place finish in the high jump with a final height of 5-2, while Paige Gatter took home second in the 3200-m run in 11:50.12.

“The nicest surprise was Paige Gatter came close and challenged one of the girls who took second at the state cross country meet this year in the 3200-m run,” said Paulson. “It was a pretty phenomenal time.”

The 4x800-m relay of Amber Fobert, Morgan Kelly, Kelcey Adams and Emily Ford, also brought home a second-place finish in 10:26.85, followed by Rayne Bodeen in second in the 55-m dash in 7.51.

Placing third were Hannah?Waller in the 55-m hurdles in 9.67; the 4x200-m relay of Storm, Waller, Ashley Kempher and Bodeen with a time of 1:52.68.

Halle Olson came in third in the 400-m dash in 1:04.43, while the 4x400-m relay of Katie Puls, Ford, Olson and Storm took third in 4:22.01. Audrey Anderson placed third in the shot put with a toss of 32-11 1/2.

Hartman also took home a fourth-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 32-5 1/4, followed by Ford in the 800-m run in 2:25.35, Storm in the 400-m dash at 1:04.56 and Bodeen in the 200-m dash at 28.13.

“The girls were really happy with their performance,” said Paulson. “I kept telling them there was only one trophy that was given out and they were excited about that.”
