  • The Lady Leaf soccer team notched two victories this past week with a conference win over Streator and a narrow victory over UT.
    Geneseo vs. Streator
    Geneseo opened the conference schedule with a bang April 3 when the girls defeated host Streator, 9-1.
    The Lady?Leafs jumped out a 3-0 lead in the first half with Monique Welch punching through the first goal of the game on the assist from Kelsey Nystrom at the 16 minute and 37 mark.
    Mallory Wirth put Geneseo up 2-0 at 24:07 with an unassisted goal, while Alex Radue gave Geneseo the 3-0 lead on the assist from Heather Setser at 25:32.
    Streator got on the board with an unassisted goal at 27:41 for a 3-1 halftime score.
    After the break, it was all Geneseo as the squad knocked in six goals to seal the victory.
    Rachel Morton scored the first goal of the second half on the assist from Radue at 46:19, while Wirth put in her second goal of the game on the assist from Nystrom at 49:52.
    Morton added her second goal of the contest on the assist from Nystrom at 51:46, followed by Kaylie Piekos with a goal on the assist from Setser at 63:26 for the 7-1 lead.
    The Lady Leafs capped off the game with unassisted goals from Nystrom at 68:10 and Radue at 72:20, her second of the game.
    Geneseo finished the game with 16 shots on goal and Darci Dietrich made six saves in the net.
    Streator took only three shots on goal and had 19 goalie saves.
    The junior varsity shut out the Bulldogs by a score of 10-0.
    Geneseo vs. UT
    The Lady Leafs survived a tight battle with visiting UT March 29, 1-0.
    Geneseo and UT went into the half still locked at a 0-0 stalemate.
    Only a couple of minutes into the second half, Jenny Ford knocked a Lady Leaf goal past the Panther goalie, unassisted, at 42:28 to put Geneseo up, 1-0.
    The Lady Leafs managed to fend off the Panthers and emerged with the 1-0 victory.
    Geneseo took 10 shots on goal and Dietrich made six saves in the net. UT finished the game with six shots on goal and nine saves.
    The Lady Leafs (5-0-1 overall and 1-0 in the NIB 12) will be on the road next against Yorkville at 5 p.m. April 10.
