  • The Geneseo varsity softball team went 1-1 this past week as the Lady Leafs nabbed a conference win over Streator, but suffered their first loss of the season to Alleman.
    Geneseo vs. Alleman
    Visiting Alleman got the best?of Geneseo in six innings, 11-1 March 31 in Geneseo, ending the Lady Leafs undefeated streak.
    The Pioneers struck first in their opening trip to the plate with two runs and held on to the 2-0 lead through the next two innings.
    Alleman extended its advantage to 9-0 in the top of the fourth as the squad drove in seven runs, followed by another two in the top of the sixth.
    Geneseo got on the board in the bottom of the sixth with one run, but it wasn’t enough.
    Emily Zaderaka recorded the loss for Geneseo to fall to 3-1 on the year.
    At the plate, Geneseo was held to only three hits from Jessica Murray with two, including a double and Taylor Wise (1 RBI) with one hit on a double.
    Geneseo vs. Streator
    The Lady Leafs and Streator Bulldogs were locked in a tight conference battle March 29 and a six-run seventh inning was enough for Geneseo to edge out Streator, 7-3.
    After five scoreless innings, the Lady Leafs got on the board with one run in the top of the sixth, but Streator quickly countered with three runs in the bottom of the frame to take the 3-1 lead.
    Geneseo responded in the top of the seventh as the girls drove home six runs to take the 7-3 lead. The Lady Leaf defense held off the Bulldogs in their last at bats to come away with the win.
    Jena Reddig recorded the win for the Lady Leafs to improve to 3-0 on the season, while Zaderaka earned the save.
    Wise (1 RBI) led the team with three hits, followed by Murray,?Olivia Goethals (2 RBIs) and Reddig all with two.
    Haley Cathcart stretched out a double for her lone hit of the game, while Zaderaka (2 RBIs) and Bailee Kain (1 RBI) each finished with one hit. Karissa Herrman ended the game with an RBI.
    The Lady Leafs (6-1 overall and 2-0 in the NIB 12) return to action against Rock?Island at 4:30 p.m. April 9 and will be at home at 5 p.m.?April 10 against LaSalle-Peru.
