Geneseo’s water department garage facility has been declared “surplus property” by city officials and will be sold.
The garage, located at 118 East Pearl St., is situated on the alley between Pearl and Main streets.
“This is part of our goal to move forward and consolidate our departments into one building,” said Geneseo public service director Klint Rice.
The water department equipment currently stored in the Pearl Street building will be relocated to the city’s main garage on Chicago Street.
To account for the additional equipment, an expansion will be added to the Chicago Street building.
At the April 10 city council meeting, aldermen approved a resolution listing the water garage as “surplus property.”
Prior to approving the resolution, alderman Derek Betcher asked if wording could be included in the resolution stating proceeds from the sale would be used for the Chicago Street building expansion.
City attorney Virgil Thurman said those details could be added to the point-of-sale agreement once the water garage has been purchased.
The garage will be sold in a public auction.
