  • Students in the drama and music departments at Geneseo High School are in final rehearsals for the 2012 musical, “Bye Bye Birdie.”
Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, April 27, and Saturday, April 28, and at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, in the high school auditorium.
Tickets are available at the high school’s page at www.dist228.org.
According to Joseph DePauw, director, the show is “about a rock and roll singer about to be inducted into the Army.”
“His agent's secretary comes up with a plan to have the singer give a girl in his fan club one last kiss before going into the Army. There are many good, well-known songs in the show. It gives the cast a chance to see what teenagers were like 40 or 50 years ago. Actually, they were not much different than teenagers of today,” said DePauw.
"The cast, crew, and orchestra are all working very hard to bring our audiences a great show,” he said, adding that the show has been a great challenge, for many reasons, not the least of which, it has given the cast a chance to see how far our society has come with daily technology from 40 or 50 years ago, when this show took place.
"This show is one that many people can relate to,” DePauw said.  “I can't tell you how many adults in our community have told me they were in this show when they were in high school.”
