  • The Geneseo girls’ soccer team sailed through competition this past week to earn wins over Morris and Dixon.
    Geneseo vs. Morris
Geneseo’s stifling attack was too much for visiting Morris to handle April 17 as the Lady Leafs shut out the Redskins, 8-0.
“Last night, I think it took a little bit and a couple good chances before we put one in,” said head coach Ian Kline. “The girls played well from beginning to end.
“Morris is a decent team, but our team is starting to play pretty well. They are starting to do their thing and that is what is expected out of this group. They are working on things, setting each other up and played unselfishly. They came out right away and played a good game.”
Kelsey Nystrom started the night off with a goal on the assist from Heather Setser, followed by Rachel Morton with an unassisted goal for the 2-0 lead.
Rachel Smith put the Lady Leafs ahead, 3-0 with an unassisted goal, while Mallory Wirth booted through another goal on the assist from Smith for the 4-0 advantage.
Monique Welch got in on the scoring action with a goal on the assist from Nystrom, while Nystrom added her second goal of the game, unassisted to give Geneseo the 6-0 lead at the half.
Nystrom completed the hat trick with the Lady Leafs’ seventh goal of the game, while Welch put through another goal, unassisted in the second half.
Geneseo finished the game with 16 shots on goal and Darci Dietrich and Emily Bozzer both made one save in the net.
Morris took two shots on goal.
“I think everybody is rising to the occasion and starting to play the soccer I expect,” said Kline. “It is nice to see them get out there and play as a team.”
    Geneseo vs. Dixon
Geneseo grabbed its fifth conference win of the season as the Lady Leafs cruised to a 6-0 victory over host Dixon April 12.
“It took a little bit to get started, and we had some chances to finish that we didn’t,”?said Kline. “We always start well, but don’t always finish our good chances early.”
Kylie Gerhardt put the Lady Leafs on the board with an unassisted goal at the 25:00-mark to take the 1-0 lead.
Alex Radue booted through Geneseo’s second goal, unassisted at 32:00, while Dani?Manna followed with an unassisted goal 5:00 later at 37:00 to put the Lady Leafs up 3-0.
Radue capped off the half with her second goal of the game on the assist from Heather Setser at 39:00 to give Geneseo the 4-0 advantage at the half.
After the break, Wirth knocked one past the Dixon goalie on the assist from Radue at 42:00, while Kylie Lembke added Geneseo’s final goal of the game, unassisted, at 65:00.

Dixon took one shot on goal and had 12 goalie saves.
The Lady Leafs (9-0-1 overall and 6-0 in the NIB 12) will be in action this weekend in the Pekin Invitational today and April 21.
“The Pekin Invite will be a good weekend and we will get some competitive games,” said Kline. “We are hoping to win the tournament this year.
“This year,?I can’t say what the level of play is going to be at with a new team in the tournament, so I don’t know what to expect, but in my opinion we should be the team to beat.”
