  • The Geneseo boys’ track and field team grabbed first-and second-place finishes this past week at home and in Dixon.
    Geneseo at Dixon ABC?Meet
    The Geneseo boys’ track and field team captured a plethora of first-place finishes at the April 21 Dixon ABC Meet and were led by record-setting performances by the Leaf throwers. Geneseo finished the meet in second place behind Sterling.
    “I thought we had a great meet and our discus guys went nuts,” said head coach Don?Fredericks. “We had tons of guys who stepped up with a ton of first-place finishes. It was very exciting because there were a lot of competitive opportunities.”
    Geneseo’s throwers earned five firsts out of six in the shot put and discus events — Joe Huffman won discus A with a throw of 162-7 1/2, the fourth farthest in school history and also took second in shot put A at 48-5; A.J. Marmion won shot put B with a throw of 43-6 1/2 and discus B with a final distance of 159-04, a new sophomore record by 12 feet; and Nick?Verbeck grabbed firsts in shot put C at 43-8 1/2 and discus C at 139-2, the fourth farthest sophomore throw in school history.
    Placing first in the A division were the 4x200-m relay of Ryan?Pitra, Tyler Rusk, Landon Hoon and Chase Cahalan with a time of 1:36.67; Kyle Reiling, 3200-m run, 10:13.00;  and Josh Beard, triple jump, 39-8.
    Additional A Division Results
    Second place- Jordan Starkey, 800-m run, 2:02.34; and Reiling, 1600-m run, 4:44.44.  Third place- 4x100-m relay of Justin?Seeley, Ryan?Webster, Luke Snyder and Cahalan, 46.43; Webster, high jump, 5-8; and Alex Platz, third, 12-0. Fourth- Snyder, 100-m dash, 12.64; Rusk, 200-m dash, 24.21; Jacob Rahn, 400-m dash, 57.02; 4x400-m relay, 3:44.65; 4x800-m relay, 9:03.44; and Seeley, 110-m hurdles, 18.64 and long jump, 18-6.
    Taking home first in the B division were Cahalan in the 100-m dash, taking the tape in 11.54; Starkey, 1600-m run, 4:39.03; and Seeley, 300-m hurdles, 43.93.

    Second place- 4x100-m relay of Hoon, Rusk, Zach Taber and Pitra, 47.78; 4x200-m relay of Snyder, Jeremy Harper, Sam Arndt and Ian Ramsey, 1:40.70; Griffin Welfer, 800-m run, 2:11.44; David Chenoweth, 3200-m run, 10:37; 4x800-m relay of Chaise Blakley, Ganson, Chris Bagley and Jacob Miller, 9:36.51; and Jesse Mohr, pole vault, 10-6. Third place- Webster, 200-m dash, 25.39; 4x400-m relay of Beard, Miller, Tyler Milroy and Ryan Ganson, 3:51.44; Platz, high jump, 5-6; and Cahalan, triple jump, 36-07 1/2. Fourth- Beard, 400-m dash, 56.08 and Rusk, long jump, 17-7.
    Rounding out the first-place finishes were the those in C division, including: Webster, 100-m dash, 11.64; Snyder, 200-m dash, 24.34; Mitchell Lamb, 800-m run, 2:12.04; and Chenoweth, 1600-m run, 4:55.91.

    Second place- Milroy, 400-m dash, 56.67; Tony?Gatter, 3200-m run, 11:03; Cam Yeater, 300-m hurdles, 44.84; Ramsey, high jump, 5-4; Taber, long jump, 17-2; and Bailey Weber, triple jump, 30-8 1/4. Third place- Jordan Mielke, 110-m hurdles, 17.44; and Weber, pole vault, 8-0.

    Geneseo F/S Invite
    The Geneseo freshmen and sophomore boys combined their efforts April 24 to win the Geneseo F/S Boys’ Track and Field Invitational with 233 points.
    Grabbing wins at the freshmen level were David Chenoweth in the 1600-m run, taking the tape in 4:47.50 and Josh Beard in the triple jump with a leap of 37-8.
    Placing first at the sophomore level were Griffin Welfer in the 800-m run with a time of 2;07.49; Justin Seeley in the 300-m hurdles at 42.32 and in the long jump with a mark of 19-5; and A.J. Marmion in the shot put and discus with tosses of 48-0 and 147-3, respectively.
    Taking home second-place honors for the freshmen were Ryan Pitra in the 100-m dash at 11.79; Sam Arndt in the 200-m dash at 24.87; Beard, 400-m dash, 55.84 and long jump at 18-2 1/2; and Ian Ramsey, high jump, clearing 5-6.
    In second place for the sophomores were Seth Wilson in the 400-m dash with a time of 59.57 and the high jump at 8-6; and the 4x100-m relay of Seeley, Ryan Webster, Luke Snyder and Chase Cahalan in 45.31.
