Harold R. Kessler, 102, of Geneseo and resident of the Geneseo Good Samaritan Village, died Sunday, April 22, 2012, at the village. Funeral services celebrating his life were held Wednesday, April 25, at Vandemore Funeral Home Ltd., Geneseo. The Rev. Michael McBride officiated. Burial was in North Cemetery, Geneseo. A visitation was held prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Harold Kessler Memorial Fund.
He was born on Nov. 9, 1909, in Calvin, Okla., the son of Albert J. and Eva (Reid) Kessler. He married Ida Mae Lockridge on?Oct. 21, 1935, in Butler, Mo. She died in 2007. He had a longtime career with the Rock Island Lines Railroad working as a telegraph operator and as a depot agent in Atkinson and Geneseo depots for 53 years, retiring in 1979. He truly loved gardening and doing furniture repair for the former Klavohn’s Furniture Store in Geneseo, as well as reupholstering furniture.
Survivors include a daughter and spouse, Mary Lou and Kurt Brentstrup of Saluda, N.C.; sons and spouses, Cliffton and Bonnie Kessler of Elgin,?Texas, and Bill and Peggy Kessler of Washington, D.C.; a son-in-law, Ron Mason of Fort Wayne, Ind.; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Lois Kessler of California. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Mae; a daughter, Suzanne Mason, one brother and one sister.
