Max “Mick” F. Ruberg, 89, of Geneseo, went to his heavenly home that the Lord and Savior prepared for him on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at The Geneseo Good Samaritan Village. A funeral service celebrating his life was held Tuesday, May 1, at Vandemore Funeral Home Ltd., Geneseo. Pastor Rodney Ruberg officiated. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Bureau. A visitation was held Monday, April 30, at Vandemore Funeral Home Ltd. Memorials may be directed to the Ruberg Scholarship Fund at the Moody Bible Institute, Chicago.
He was born on Aug. 30, 1922, in Spring Valley, the son of Samuel Joel and EvaDell (Ireland) Ruberg. He attended Andover High School and graduated from Orion High School in 1941. He taught a young boys’ Sunday school class for more than 60 years. He also served in several positions in the church at that time. He enjoyed his years farming, hunting and fishing. He raised numerous award-winning ponies and race winners. He had his livestock dealers’ license and worked out of the Galesburg Livestock Sale, buying cattle from the South and West for many years. He helped at the Cambridge Veterinary office as an assistant for many years as well.
Survivors include his two sisters, Opal Johnson of Geneseo and EvaDell Ruberg of Geneseo and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved and enjoyed so very much. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and spouses, Harland and Mildred, Delbert and Maurine and Rodney and Evelyn; his sister and spouse, Fern and Robert Geisinger; an infant sister; one niece, Linda Johnson; one great niece, Kelly Johnson; a brother-in-law, Dale Johnson; and one great-great nephew, Clint Burchfield.
