Geneseo has a new city accountant. At the May 8 city council meeting, aldermen approved hiring Karen Brandau as the city’s accountant.
She replaces Kyle Eickman who left the city to accept a position with John Deere. Eickman will serve the city as a citizen appointee to Geneseo’s audit committee.
Brandau took the oath of office at the council meeting. She will start her new job on May 14.
At the May council meeting, aldermen also:
• Voted to purchase a mini excavator from Holland &?Sons in Geneseo for $23,000. Of the three bidders presenting prices, Holland &?Sons’ was the highest, however?Holland &?Sons was the only bidder to have the excavator available on the lot. All others would need to be ordered or transfered.
Lewis Opsal, the city’s electric superintendent said the difference between the lowest bid and highest bid was $1,580. He asked aldermen to accept the highest bid in order to allow the city to take possession of the mini excavator immediately, as opposed to ordering the machine and waiting several months to receive it.
Other bidders were Vermeer Midwest and Bobcat of the Quad Cities.
• Approved an ordinance requiring signatures upon receipt of the ordinance addressing code of conduct for elected officials.
• Approved the use of the city and police department’s logos for emergency memo boards. Simple City Solutions requested permission to use the logos for approximately 2,000 memo boards which will be distributed at National?Night Out or school event.
• Issued a proclamation designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day. All city flags will be flown at half-mast on that day.
