Area basketball players need to lace up their shoes and grab a few friends to team up for the June 29th June Jam 3-on-3 Basketball?Tournament hosted by the Geneseo Park?District.
“This year, we are trying to get people out and enjoy the game of basketball in a 3-on-3 format,” said center manager Mike Radue. “It has been our goal to create a tradition of a 3-on-3 tournament in Geneseo.”
The tournament will be divided into three ages divisions: third to fifth grade, sixth to eighth grade and ninth to 12th grade. There will be separate divisions for boys and girls.
Teams can be made up of three to five players and are encouraged to be creative with teams names and uniforms, said Radue.
Games will be played to 11 points by one, no three pointers and there will be a 20-minute time limit. After 20 minutes is up, the game will go into sudden death and teams do not have to win by two, said Radue.
The games will all have referees and players will receive one free throw after a shooting foul. Personal fouls will not be tracked.
All participants will receive a one-day pass to the outdoor pool after the tournament.
“We want to keep the atmosphere fun and this is for the kids, by the kids and designed for kids,” said Radue. “This tournament is something fun for kids to do to apply their skills they learned from camps with no instruction.”
The event is open to teams from Geneseo and the surrounding areas. Participants do not have to be a member of the Geneseo Park District. Registration will be accepted through Thursday, June 28.
“I hope the kids will have a lot of fun with the team concept and working together with their friends,” said Radue.
For more information or to register, call the Geneseo Community Center at 944-5695 or stop at the front desk.
“I hope kids will come out and have a great time, enjoy the company of their friends, while playing a sport and then unwind at the outdoor pool,” said Radue.
