  • Minnie M. Thorson, 96, of Geneseo, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at Hammond-Henry Hospital Long Term Care Unit, Geneseo. A memorial service celebrating her life was held Tuesday, Aug. 14, at First Lutheran Church, Geneseo. The Rev. Dr.?Arthur Bergren officiated. Inurnment was in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.?Per her request, cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation was held prior to services Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Minnie Thorson Memorial Fund. Vandemore Funeral Home Ltd., Geneseo assisted the family with arrangements.
    She was born on Feb. 14, 1916, in Williston, N.D., the daughter of Peter and Hannah (Stark) Quinstrom. She married Allen G. Livesay on July 31, 1934, in Monmouth. He died on Nov. 11, 1965. She latered married Vernon Thorson on April 23, 1982. He died on March 28, 1987. She had been employed as a receptionist/nurse assistant for Dr. Roberto Puentes. She was a member of First Covenant Church, Moline and an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Colona Chapter, where she served as the Worthy Matron. She also was an active volunteer for the Salvation Army, Red Cross at the Lutheran Hospital in Moline and enjoyed traveling.
    Survivors include a daughter, Julie Weidner of Geneseo; a son and spouse, Stephen and Susan Livesay of Andover; 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; infant son; a son, Larry; a daughter, Barbara Verbrugge; two brothers and two sisters.
