  • Obituary: Druscilla VanDamme

  • Druscilla A. VanDamme, 91, of Atkinson, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at Kewanee Hospital. Private funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 10, at Vandemore Funeral Home, Atkinson. The Rev. R. Anthony Lee officiated. There was no visitation. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Memorials may be directed to the Atkinson Rescue Squad.

    She was born on Jan. 30, 1921, in Como, the daughter of Frank and Bertha (Hulslander) Whipple. She was a graduate of Atkinson High School. She married Walter VanDamme on June 26, 1940, in Atkinson. He died in 1984. She served as a rural mail carrier for the Atkinson Post Office for several years. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxillary.
    Survivors include her daughter and spouse, LeAnne and Clay Nielsen; a son and spouse, Lynn and Gail VanDamme; three grandchildren: Jodi (J.R.) Hyde, Tracy VanDamme and Tyler Nielsen; four great grandchildren, Jake Hyde, Noah and Brooke VanDamme and Druscilla Christine Hyde; four step- grandchildren, Jason Welch, Sarah Palmer, Mark (Lisa) Welch and Scott Welch; and two step-great grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; and daughter-in-law, Christine VanDamme.
