  • St. Anthony's parish in Atkinson will host the 2012 convention of the Peoria Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW) on Oct. 13.

  • St. Anthony's parish in Atkinson will host the 2012 convention of the Peoria Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW) on Oct. 13.
    The convention's main speakers will be Mary Massingale, director of communications for the Catholic Conference of Illinois and Father Joseph Mary Brown, CSJ, prior of the Congregation of St. John, located in rural Princeville.
    Massingale's presentation will be on "Religious Freedom" and Brown will discuss "Spirituality."
    A light breakfast and registration will start at 8:30 a.m. in St. Anthony's parish hall. The first speaker will follow the welcome and opening ritual at 9 a.m.
    Christine Dennis, family/pro-life chairman, will discuss the new Women's Care Center being built in Peoria. She will discuss how members can assist the project.
    Her presentation will be followed by a rosary and then the opening liturgy, Mass of Our Lady, which will be celebrated by Monsignor Dale Wellman, spiritual moderator for the Peoria DCCW.
    Any priests who accompany their parish group to the convention are invited to concelebrate and stay for lunch.
    Following the catered lunch, the convention will include updates on the work of the spiritualty, prison ministry, legislation, organization and missions commissions. The updates will be presented by Mary Anna Meyer, Betty Sullivan, Joan Weber, Agnes Christman and Christine Dennis.
    Displays from the commissions will be featured besides items such as handmade crafts, handmade rosaries, religious books and other items.
    Raffle items at the convention will include an Isabel Bloom statue, a purse and a money tree.
