The Geneseo Harvest Time Music Festival will kick off a weekend of activities beginning with the 22nd annual Maple Leaf Marching Band Classic on Sept. 29 at the Geneseo High School football stadium.
The festival will conclude on Sept. 30, with festivities in Geneseo City Park.
The Maple Leaf Classic Marching Band Competition takes center stage from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 29 with area high school bands competing for top honors.
The public is invited to the competition which will feature high-school bands from: Rockridge, Galva, Kewanee, Wethersfield, Cambridge, Oregon, Davenport North, ROWVA, Rochelle, Dunlap, LaSalle-Peru, Streator, Metamora, East Peoria, Pekin, McHenry, Oak Park/River Forest, Galesburg and IVC.
The Geneseo Middle School Band will perform a special introduction and the Geneseo High School Marching Band will perform at the conclusion of the exhibition.
On Sept. 30, in Geneseo City Park (or at the high school if it rains), activities include a pork chop dinner and concessions, available from 11:30 to 4 p.m., with karaoke and music from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The seventh- and eighth-grade choirs will perform at 1 p.m., followed by high-school vocalists at 2 p.m. Choirs representing grades 4-12 will present the grand finale at 4:45 p.m. with songs connected to this year's theme, "The Beatles Tribute."
The first half of the live auction will get underway at 1:30 p.m. with guest auctioneer, Vern Mariman. The second half begins at 2:30 p.m. Raffle drawings will begin at 4 p.m. for large raffle items, and conclude with smaller raffle items.
A talent show of students is from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Large raffle items include a year of groceries valued at $5,200 from Fareway; an Acer Laptop and XBOX 360 Bundle, valued at $1,000, from Geneseo Communications, Inc., and Best Upholstery; a Kindle Fire and Geneseo Chamber of Commerce gift certificates, valued at $300, sponsored by Hanford Insurance Agency.
Tickets for raffle items will be available at the festival or from band or choir members.
The festival is sponsored by Geneseo Performing Arts Council (GPAC), and proceeds from the weekend benefit Geneseo band, choir and drama students.
