  • Joel S. Scranton, 52, of Colona, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Geneseo. The Rev. Joe Kobernat will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. A visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Joel Scranton Memorial Fund.

    He was born on Oct. 22, 1959, in Geneseo, the son of Francis C. and Mary Irene (Jobe) Scranton. He graduated from Geneseo High School in 1977 and from Black Hawk College, Moline with an associate's degree in electrical engineering. He married Ann Gabriel in November 1978 in Geneseo. He worked at Harrington Signal in Moline until his death. He loved to fish.
    Survivors include three sons, Jeremy Scranton of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Malachi Scranton of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Justen Scranton of Marion, Iowa; his mother, Irene; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Bruce and Judy Scranton of Franklin Springs, Ga., Philip and Donna Scranton of Jasper, Ala. and Timothy and Nancy Scranton of Erie; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Joe Vest of White House, Tenn., Veda and Dale Riewerts of Geneseo and Eula and Rob Lang of Lawrence, Kan.; and a multitude of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.
