  • Blog: Flu clinics scheduled
  • The Henry and Stark County Health Departments are pleased to announce
that they have received their supply of "Seasonal" flu vaccine and they are sponsoring Fall Flu Clinics at various sites. According to the CDC, flu activity most
commonly peaks in the US in January or February; so this is a great time to
get your seasonal flu shot. These clinics are for adults 18 years of age
    and older only.

The Health Department is pleased to be offering this year's flu shot at
a reduced rate of $22. In addition, flu & pnueumonia shots may be
administered at no-charge to those who have Medicare Part-B and some
insurance plans are accepted. You must, however, bring your Medicare card
with you in order to receive the shots. The pneumonia shot will be
available at these clinics at a cost of $70 or at no-charge with your
    Medicare card.

The Health Department notes that it is important to be protected against
the flu virus; as influenza epidemics are unpredictable. The 2012-2013 flu
vaccine will protect against influenza A/California (H1N1 -like virus),
    A/Victoria (H3N2-like virus), and influenza B/Wisconsin 2010-like (Yamagata
    lineage) antigens.

RaeAnn Tucker-Marshall, Public Information Director notes, "We are
encouraging everyone 6 months of age and older to get vaccinated against the
flu this year. People at high risk of serious flu complications are
strongly encouraged to be vaccinated. These "at-risk" persons include small
children, pregnant women, people with chronic health problems like asthma,
diabetes, smokers, heart and lung disease, health care workers, and people
    65 years and older."

The Health Department will be giving Seasonal Flu vaccinations at these
    times and locations:

Please note, persons with a sensitivity to eggs, and those with a

check with their doctor before receiving any type of flu vaccine. The
Health Department would also like to remind clinic participants that if
navigating the clinic site poses a physical hardship, simply notify
Department staff on-site and a nurse will come to you to administer the
vaccine or you may call the Health Department at 852-0197 and a home health
nurse can be assigned to give the vaccine in your home if you are homebound.

The Health Department reminds individuals to practice flu preventative
measures; Clean hands frequently, Cover your nose and mouth when coughing,
and Contain spread of the flu virus by staying home when you are ill.
