"Historic photos have been of great interest when they appear in our paper," said Geneseo Republic general manager Dee Evans.
Though individual communities in Henry County have been featured in other pictorial books over the years, Evans said she believes this is a first time a pictorial history book has been created for all of Henry County.
The all-photo hardback book includes Henry County photos from the mid-1800s through the 1950s. Whenever possible, identities of those pictured were included with the book.
Geneseo residents may remember the Republic published "Looking Back," a collection of E.H. Harrington's Geneseo photographs. That book is no longer in print. However, over the years, many Republic readers have asked for books featuring similar historic photos to be published.
"Henry County: A Pictorial History" is in the same pictorial style as the "Looking Back" book.
"We believe 'Henry County: A Pictorial History,' will be a book people will want to browse through again and again. It's a great coffee table book and the photos provide a fascinating glimpse at Henry County's history," said Evans.
"The book will make an excellent Christmas gift, especially for the hard-to-buy-for Henry County resident," she said.
Copies of "Henry County: A Pictorial History" are available for $34.95. The book can be shipped to locations throughout the United States for an additional $6.
"Henry County: A Pictorial History" is available at the Geneseo Republic office, 108 W. First St. For more information, phone 944-2119.
The book was published in conjunction with the Cambridge Chronicle, Galva News, Kewanee Star Courier and the Orion Gazette. Copies of the book also are available at those newspaper offices.
