The Henry and Stark County Health Department announces that a member of
their staff recently attended the 2012 Illinois Immunization and
Communicable Disease Conference. Sandy Sommer, RN Health Department
Director of Clinical Services, attended the conference held recently in
Sommer notes, "By attending this conference, participants obtained new
information in diagnosis, treatment, prevention and management of numerous
communicable diseases; acquired knowledge of infectious disease
interventions from experts in the fields of vaccine preventable disease,
communicable disease and tuberculosis; and learned how to recognize and
respond to emerging infectious diseases."
Areas of interest covered during the 2-Day conference included: Turn
Your World Upside Down: Immunizations, International Travel and STIs; I-Care
Overview: Policies, Benefits and Enhancements of Illinois' Immunization
Registry; The Intersection of Social Media and PublIc Health; Pertussis: Old
Disease, New Dilemmas; and Sharing Tuberculosis, Humans and Other Animals.
Those attending this conference included local and state public health
department officials and staff; community health center, hospital, and
physician clinics medical staff; school officials and nurses; and
immunization and communicable disease specialists.
