Lois M. Nelson, 85, of Geneseo died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at Hammond-Henry Hospital Long Term Care Unit. A memorial service celebrating her life was held Saturday, Oct. 6 at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. The Rev. David Joyce officiated. Cremation rites have been accorded and inurnment will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge. A visitation was held Friday, Oct. 5 at the funeral home in Geneseo where an Order of the Eastern Star service and a Women of the Moose service were conducted. The family requests that memorials be directed to the Lois M. Nelson Memorial Fund.
She was born on March 2, 1927, in Abingdon, the daughter of Raymond and Clara (Williams) Johnson. She was a 1945 graduate of Cambridge High School. She married Willard W. Nelson on Sept. 5, 1948, in Cambridge. Lois and Willard owned and operated Nelson Christmas Tree Farm for more than 30 years. During that time, she decorated hundreds of beautiful wreaths. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, the Order of the Eastern Star Mystic Chapter, Cambridge, was an active and dedicated member of the Maple City Band and the Bettendorf Park Band, in which she played flute. She was an avid collector and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, playing cards and dancing.
Survivors include her husband, Willard; three daughters and spouses, Linda and Al Denison, Cambridge, Cori and Bill Nielsen of New Lenox and Carol and George Heintz of Wisconsin Dells, Wis.; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Richard, and one grandson, Joseph Heintz.
