Charles C. Snider, 89, of Geneseo, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at Kewanee Care Home. Per his request, cremation has been accorded. Memorial services celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12 at Vandemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Geneseo. The Rev. Joe Kobernat will officiate. Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home following the service. Inurnment will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Care Center.
He was born on April 3, 1923, in Montezuma, Iowa, the son of Clark and Margaret "Madge" (McCoy) Snider. He served his country in World War II as a member of the United States Army. He married Levie Kelley on Dec. 21, 1963, in Moline. She died on May 13, 2012. He was a welder at the American Air Filter Company in Moline. Prior to that, he worked at the Servus Rubber Company in Rock Island. He belonged to First Baptist Church, Geneseo and was a lifetime member of the Don Cherry VFW Post No. 5083. He enjoyed doing leather work and camping.
Survivors include two daughters and spouse, Joyce and David Bradley of Junction City, Kan. and Charlotte Snider of Geneseo; two granddaughters and spouses, Rebecca and Michael Baramidze of Macomb and Ronda and Jeff Bradley of Junction City; and one sister, Margaret McCulley of Grinnell, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter, Marlys Morrell, and two brothers.
