Steven Warren Scales, 62, of Geneseo, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at the V.A. Medical Center in Iowa City, Iowa. A memorial service celebrating Steven's life was held Monday, Oct. 15 at Vandemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Geneseo. The Rev. Lou Zuck officiated. Inurnment followed in North Cemetery where military honors were accorded by the Don Cherry VFW Post No. 5083. Per his requests, cremation rites have been accorded. A visitation was held prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Steven W. Scales Memorial Fund.
He was born on Feb. 15, 1950, in Staunton, Va., the son of William and Mildred (Sutler) Scales. He was a 1968 graduate of Geneseo High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army in Vietnam. He was in sales for more than 30 years, most recently working for the I-80 Heavy Equipment Company in Colona. He was a lifetime member of the Don Cherry VFW Post No. 5083. He was an avid Cubs and Bears fan and loved his dog, Eddie.
Survivors include his mother, Millie Scales of Geneseo; one daughter and spouse, Nicole and Jeff Hadley of Houston, Texas; one granddaughter, Tessa Nicole; two brothers and spouses, Ron and Judy Scales of Atlanta, Ga. and Mike and Suzanne Scales of Flagstaff, Ariz.; one sister, Lisa Swanigan of Canton, Ohio; and his loyal canine companion, Eddie. He was preceded in death by his father in 1984 and his grandparents.
