Martha L. "Mert" Minnaert, 84, of Geneseo, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at the Hammond-Henry Hospital Emergency Room. A funeral Mass celebrating her life was held Monday, Oct. 22, at St. Malachy Catholic Church, Geneseo. The Rev. Michael Pakula officiated. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. A visitation was held Sunday, Oct. 21, at Vandemore Funeral Homes, Geneseo, where a scripture service was held. Memorials may be directed to the Martha Minnaert Memorial Fund.
She was born on Feb. 23, 1928, in Moline, the daughter of Milton A. and Ethel V. (Johnson) Griffin. She was a graduate of Moline High School. She married Eugene Minnaert on June 14, 1947, in Geneseo. He died in 1984. Mert had been employed as a sales clerk at Northside Rexall Drug Store in Geneseo for more than 30 years. She was a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society of the church. She enjoyed gardening and working puzzles.
Survivors include her son, Michael E. Minnaert of Geneseo and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Alice, Ruby, Rose, Eunice, Helen and Dorothy; and brothers, Clarence, Donald and Elmer.
