Geneseo's varsity volleyball team closed out the season on a rough note this past week as the Lady Leafs fell in their final conference showdown and in the first round of regionals.
Geneseo vs. Dunlap
The Lady Leafs volleyball team's season came to an early end Oct. 23 as the girls suffered a 25-16 and 25-10 loss to Dunlap in the opening round of regional action.
Defensively, Courtney Cutlip and Mallory Wirth led the team with nine digs apiece, followed by Kelcey Adams with seven.
Cutlip and Wirth also led the team in kills as both girls put away three, while Jamie DeFauw and Adams finished with two.
Kylie Gerhardt contributed five assists towards the effort, while Adams had four.
Heather Setser served up four points in the contest, followed by Gerhardt and Jordan DePauw with two points apiece, along with aces from DePauw and Adams.
Geneseo vs. Sterling
After dropping game one, 25-17, the Lady Leafs fought back and almost forced Sterling into three games, but the Golden Warriors managed to pull out the victory, 27-25 in game two Oct. 18.
Leading the effort for the Lady Leafs were DeFauw putting away four kills and Cutlip, Gerhardt and Adams, each coming up with three kills.
Adams finished the night with seven of the team's assists, while Gerhardt added six.
Wirth served up seven points to lead the way for Geneseo, while Gerhardt had six points and Cutlip, three points and one ace.
Setser finished the night with eight digs, followed by Adams with seven and Wirth, six. DeFauw and Cutlip both contributed two blocks, and Adams, Gerhardt and DePauw had one apiece.
The Lady Leafs end the season at 10-16 overall and 6-4 in the NIB 12.
