Earl A. Collis, 87, of rural Osco, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at Geneseo Good Samaritan Village. Funeral services celebrating his life were held Thursday, Nov. 1 at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. The Rev. Michael Pakula officiated. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. A visitation was held Wednesday, Oct. 31 at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Earl Collis Memorial Fund.
He was born on Sept. 29, 1925, in Rock Island, the son of Earl G. and Irene (Long) Collis. He was a 1943 graduate of Geneseo High School and served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He married Lela Price on July 22, 1950, in Geneseo. She preceded him in 2004. Earl, along with his brother, John, started Collis Brothers' Angus Cattle in rural Osco and was well-known for raising purebred Angus cattle for 63 years. He was a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church, the Henry County Farm Bureau and the American Angus Association, of which, he was a life member. He enjoyed dancing with Lela, watching softball and baseball, and spending time watching the cattle herd.
Survivors include one son, Bill Collis of Osco and his special friend, Deb DeGroot; two daughters and one son-in-law, Linda Collis of Annawan and Jolene and Mike Vincent of Atkinson; seven grandchildren, Gavin Moore and fiancée, Melody Wancket, Chase and Trevor Vincent and Sally, Andy, Ken and Kyle Collis. He was preceded in death by his wife, one brother, John Collis, and a daughter.
