Darrell E. Swanson, 82, of Geneseo died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at Hammond-Henry Hospital's Long Term Care Unit, Geneseo. Per his request, cremation rites have been accorded. Private inurnment services with military honors will be accorded at a later date in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Memorials may be directed to the Darrell Swanson Memorial Fund. Vandemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Geneseo is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born on Jan. 9, 1930, in Geneseo, the son of Herbert and Cordice (Armstrong) Swanson. He was a 1948 graduate of Geneseo High School and served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He married Norma J. Wirth on Nov. 13, 1954, in Atkinson. He was a lifetime farmer in rural Geneseo, retiring in 2000. He was a member of St. Malachy's Catholic Church and had been a charter member of the Geneseo Jaycees. He was passionate about farming and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Norma; two sons, Terry Swanson of Leonard, Texas, and Steve Swanson of Geneseo; four grandchildren, Brandi, Austin, Tabatha and Scarlett Swanson; one brother and spouse, Ronald and Maxine Swanson of Cambridge; two sisters and spouses, Lauretta and Clarence Drescher of Cambridge and Linda and Robert Six of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Scott Swanson; and two brothers, Kenneth and Stanley Swanson.
