  • The Illinois 4-H Livestock Judging Team placed sixth overall at the American Royal 4-H Livestock Judging Contest in Kansas City, Mo.
    Members of the Henry and Stark County 4-H Livestock Judging Team represented Illinois at the contest.
    In June, the team secured first place at the Illinois 4-H State Livestock Judging Competition to gain the right to compete at the
    national level.
    Team members include: Tyler Gradert, Geneseo; Elizabeth Heaton, Toulon; Blake Roselieb, Annawan; and Tyler Verbeck, Cambridge. The team was coached by Dan Hoge.
    At the national contest, the Illinois team placed second in the sheep category, sixth in swine and third in reasons.
    Heaton captured seventh-place overall individual honors while placing first in reasons, sixth in sheep and sixth in swine. Gradert placed second in reasons.
    Contestants judged 10 classes of livestock containing four animals each. Classes included both breeding and market animals in beef, sheep/goat and swine divisions. In addition, contestants appeared before officials to present six sets of oral reasons.
