Robert L. Blaser, 85, of Colona, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa. A Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, Nov. 13 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Colona. The Rev. Duane Jack officiated. Burial was in Dayton Corners Cemetery, Colona, where military rites were accorded by the Don Cherry VFW Post No. 5083. A visitation was held Monday, Nov. 12 at the Geneseo Chapel of Vandemore Funeral Homes, where a Rosary was recited. Memorials may be left to the Robert Blaser Memorial Fund.
He was born on Sept. 26, 1927, in Rock Island, the son of William and Irene (Crompton) Blaser. He was a graduate of Rock Island High School and served his country proudly in the Korean War as a member of the U.S. Army, during which he received the Bronze Star. He married Elaine M. DePorter on Aug. 16, 1952, in Milan. She died on June 14, 2012. He was a lifetime grain and livestock farmer in rural Geneseo, retiring in 1988. He belonged to St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society of the church. He enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include two sons and spouses, Robert and Lora Blaser of Cary, N.C. and James and Lynn Blaser of Geneseo; six daughters and spouses, Mary Ann and Marvin Sempier of Jupiter, Fla., Susan and Spencer Grover of Carmel, Ind., Luanne Kerlin of Lewisburg, Pa, Joanne and John Bergstrand of Coal Valley, Rita and Ron Nelson of Geneseo and Julie and Jack Yeargle of Moline; 25 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother, Melvin Blaser of Rock Island and one sister, Janet Watkins of Milan. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; an infant granddaughter, Melissa Sempier and an infant brother, William Blaser.
