  • Rend Lake College’s Fine Arts Department is looking for actors for the upcoming Spring Musical, “Into the Woods,” a new twist on some old fairy tales.
Sara Alstat, Music Associate Professor at Rend Lake College, will direct Stephen Sondheim’s “Into the Woods.” Anyone interested in trying out for the show is invited to the auditions at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, at the RLC Theatre in Ina.
Auditioners will need to prepare a song by Stephen Sondheim. The piece needs to be memorized and acted from the beginning to the end, and the song cannot be from “Into the Woods.” Auditioners should dress professionally.
Call-backs will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20. Those who are called will be singing songs from “Into the Woods.” Rehearsals begin in January.
This musical takes threads from various well-known fairy tales, such as Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel and Little Red Riding Hood, and melds them into an original story of a childless Baker and his Wife. The couple brings the action to the story by trying to reverse the curse that has left them childless. As the plot unfolds, happy endings give way to strange consequences, and the characters must try to find strength in their connections.
Performances of “Into the Woods” will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, March 21-23, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24, at the Rend Lake College Theatre.
For more information, contact Alstat at 618-437-5321, Ext. 1817, or email to alstats@rlc.edu.
