  • Sylvia E. Chapman, 94, of Geneseo, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at Hillcrest Home, Geneseo. Funeral services celebrating her life will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3 at the Geneseo Chapel of Vandemore Funeral Homes. The Rev. Lou Zuck will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to Hillcrest Home or Grace United Methodist Church.
    She was born on July 2, 1918, in rural Geneseo, the daughter of Floyd and Ethel (Johnson) Sand. She was a graduate of Geneseo High School. She married Hobart B. Chapman in Nashua, Iowa on March 22, 1939. He died in 1980. She worked at Milikin Elementary School in the cafeteria for many years. She belonged to Grace United Methodist Church and was a member of The Spring Creek Grange. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling with the Central Bank Classic Club, knitting and bowling. She also was an avid and loyal Cubs fan.
    Survivors include three sons and spouses, Eugene and Mary Chapman of Georgetown, Texas, Wayne and Linda Chapman of West Des Moines, Iowa, and James and Marilyn Chapman of Geneseo; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one brother, Laverne Sand of Geneseo; two sisters, Willicene Pobanz of Geneseo and Elaine Hamilton of Maryland Heights, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and a great
    granddaughter.
