A Matter of Respect
There was a time when kids didn’t curse in front of their parents…when clothes were clean and in good repair…when appropriate body parts were covered up...when “yes sir” and “yes ma’am” were spoken…it was a matter of respect.
There was a time when cursing and distasteful language was not allowed on television programs…when allusions to sex and inappropriate behavior were not something you would be exposed to…it was a matter of decency…of respect.
There was a time when families sat down to meals together, prayed together, spent time together; when a sense of family and community was commonplace; when the elderly were looked to for wisdom and direction…it was a matter of strength…it was a matter of values…it was a matter of respect.
Buildings and bridges weather with age and so it seems…society too. The values, as the structures, that once were strong and secure; now weakened with decay. The strength to stand ebbs slowly away and falling is only a matter of time.
