"I felt good against Beardstown, and we won the close matches, which is what we need to do," said head coach Jon Murray.

Joey Medina (152-lbs.) lost his match in a 4-3 decision and the Leafs forfeited the 220-lb. bout.

Geneseo went on to shut out Normal U-High in the next match of the day, 80-0.

In the final match of the meet, Geneseo edged out Peoria, 37-28.

"U-High only brought six guys so I felt pretty good going into the Peoria match, but the bad thing was we lost three matches that should have been wins (against Peoria)," said Murray. "It is a learning experience and on the plus side I don't feel like we wrestled our best, but still came out with a win against a solid team."

Falling short of victory were Bormann, 1-0 decision; Dodge, 11-3 major decision; Medina, 11-8 decision; Pitra, pinned in :26; Akre, 9-7 decision; and Panicucci, 5-4 decision.

Geneseo fell in its first match of the night to Machesney Park Harlem, 52-7.

"I like having Machesney Park Harlem right off the bat because it sets our standard high, and we need to be able to match that intensity," said Murray. "They are No. 4 ranked in 3A and a solid program, so they really set the bar high. I think we did the best we could and fought tough."

Receiving Geneseo's only two victories of the match were Cropp (160-lbs.) with an 8-2 decision win and Mizlo (182-lbs.) with a 9-1 major decision victory.
