  • Catherine F. Gustafson, 81, of Cambridge, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at Trinity Rock Island. A funeral Mass celebrating her life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Cambridge. The Rev. John Burns will officiate.   • Catherine F. Gustafson, 81, of Cambridge, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at Trinity Rock Island. A funeral Mass celebrating her life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Cambridge. The Rev. John Burns will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Atkinson. A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4 at the Geneseo Chapel of Vandemore Funeral Homes and Cremation Services Ltd., where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Memorials may be left to the Catherine Gustafson Memorial Fund.
    She was born on Dec. 29, 1931, in Geneseo, the daughter of Theophil and Julia (Claeys) Cauwels. She married John R. Gustafson on Jan. 8, 1971, in Rock Island. She worked as a dietary supervisor for 26 years at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo. She was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Cambridge. She enjoyed spending time with her family, fishing in Bagley, Wis. and visits to Texas for the winter with friends.
    Survivors include her husband, John; three step-sons and spouses, Kevin and Kristi Gustafson of Moline, Lonnie Gustafson of Austin, Texas and Marty and Lucy Gustafson of Sterling; one step-daughter and spouse, Penny and Michael Hayes of Erie; 10 step-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; one brother and spouse, Robert and Mary Ellen Cauwels of Geneseo; one sister, Elsie DeClercq of Geneseo; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Clara Verbeck and Irene Flake.
