Keith I. Walter, 93, of Geneseo, died peacefully Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at Hammond-Henry Hospital Long Term Care Unit. Private graveside funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at the Gunter Cemetery in Salt Lick, Ky., next to his wife, Roxanne. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be sent in Keith's name to the Henry County Humane Society, Geneseo or the Midland First Church of God in Salt Lick, KY 40371. Vandemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Geneseo is assisting the family with arrangements.
He was born on Dec. 25, 1920, in Bettendorf, Iowa, the son of Robert O. and Inez Walter. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in World War II where he reached the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Bettendorf; American Legion, DeWitt; and the Geneseo Country Club, Geneseo. He retired in 1998 after operating his own electrical business in Geneseo.
Survivors include his two nephews, Hal W. Walter (Jan) and Terry A. Walter (Patricia). He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Roxanne (Hunt), who passed away in 2001; and a brother.
