  • The Geneseo varsity girls’ basketball team closed out its holiday tournament play at the State Farm Classic where the girls finished with a 2-2 record.
    Geneseo vs. Bloomington
    The Lady Leafs notched a 44-32 victory over Bloomington on Dec. 28 in their final game contest at the State Farm Classic.
    Geneseo jumped out to a 19-9 lead in the first quarter, but Bloomington managed to close the gap in the second as Bloomington outscored Geneseo, 13-6 to give the Lady Leafs the 25-22 advantage at the half.
    In the third quarter, Geneseo scored six points, while Bloomington finished with four for a 31-26 ball game. The Lady Leafs sealed the victory with a 13-point fourth quarter and held Bloomington to only six points.
    The Lady Leafs were led by Anna Wise, Molly DeBrock and Jamie DeFauw, who all posted double digits in the win. Wise knocked down 13 points off four field goals, a shot from beyond the arc and two free throws, while DeBrock went 8-for-11 from the free-throw line and two field goals for her 12, and DeFauw scored 10 as she drained five shots from the field.
    Emily Ford added four points with a field goal and two free throws, while Rachel Ganson scored three on a field goal and a free throw, and Rori Westerlund finished with two points off a field goal.
    Geneseo vs. St. Ignatius
    St. Ignatius jumped out to an early lead on the Lady Leafs in State Farm Classic action Dec. 28, and Geneseo was never able to recover as St. Ignatius took the 43-29 win.
    St. Ignatius led 11-4 at the end of the first quarter and outshot Geneseo 15-6 in the second quarter to go ahead, 26-10 at the half.
    Geneseo was able to outscore St. Ignatius in the third quarter, 12-6 for a 32-22 score in favor of St. Ignatius, but St. Ignatius responded in the fourth with 11 points to Geneseo’s seven for the win.
    Contributing to the Geneseo offense were DeBrock with eight points off two field goals and four free throws and DeFauw and Ganson each with seven points, both girls hit three shots from the field and a free throw.
    Wise finished the game with three points as she went 3-for-4 from the line, while Ford and Darci Dietrich scored two points with one field goal apiece.
    Geneseo vs. Belvidere North
    The Lady Leafs rebounded after a first-round loss to Peoria Richwoods on Dec. 26 with a 51-42 win over Belvidere North Dec. 27.
    Geneseo grabbed a 12-7 lead in the first quarter and extended its advantage to 29-18 at the half. The Lady Leafs posted 17 points in the second quarter, while Belvidere North scored 11.
    Page 2 of 2 - Belvidere North came out in the second half and scored 12 points in the third quarter and held Geneseo to only nine, but the Lady Leafs still held on to the lead, 38-30. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Leafs posted 13 points to Belvidere North’s 12 for the win.
    DeFauw paced the Geneseo offense with a team-high 17 points as she knocked down eight shots from the field and a free throw.
    Wise chipped in 13 of her own with six field goals and a free throw, while Ford added 10 points toward the win as she drained two shots from beyond the arc and two field goals.
    DeBrock added six points off two field goals and two free throws, followed by Dietrich with four on two field goals and Kaylie Piekos, one point as she went 1-for-2 from the line.
    Geneseo vs. Richwoods
    In the opening round of the State Farm Classic Dec. 26, the Lady Leafs ran into a tough Peoria Richwoods squad that earned a convincing 60-21 victory over Geneseo.
    Richwoods jumped out to a 20-5 lead in the first quarter and posted another 19 points in the second and held Geneseo to eight for a 39-13 advantage at the break.
    Richwoods knocked in 17 more points in the third quarter, while Geneseo was only allowed two points for a 56-15 score. In the fourth quarter, Geneseo scored six points to Richwoods’ four for the final.
    Anna Wise and Jamie DeFauw led the offensive effort for Geneseo with six points apiece, both girls hit three shots from the field.
    Darci Dietrich chipped in three points off a field goal and a free throw, while Emily Ford and Molly DeBrock each scored two points — Ford went 2-for-2 from the line and DeBrock hit a field goal. Bailey Conard and Audrey Anderson finished the game with point apiece, both with a free throw.
    The Lady Leafs (7-10 overall and 1-2 in the NIB 12) return to conference play tonight at 6 p.m. on the road against LaSalle-Peru.
