Sharon L. Mercer, 68, of Colona, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis. Funeral services celebrating her life were Monday, Jan. 7 at the Colona United Methodist Church, Colona. The Rev. Sandy Bunnell officiated. Burial was in Dayton Corners Cemetery, Colona. A visitation was held Sunday, Jan. 6 at the Geneseo Chapel of Vandemore Funeral Homes and Cremation Services Ltd. Memorials may be left to the Colona United Methodist Church or the Quad City Animal Welfare Society.
She was born on Jan. 22, 1944, in Moline, the daughter of Lenoard "Butts" and Marian (Huizenga) Reynolds. She was a graduate of Port Byron High School. She married B. John Mercer on Sept. 14, 1963, in Cordova. She was the secretary at Colona United Methodist Church for 28 years. She was a member of the church and was a woman who was simple, but very proud. She enjoyed family vacations up North, playing the piano and attending her grandchildren's activities which included following them with their 4-H livestock projects and their sports activities.
Survivors include her husband, B. John; her mother, Marian A. Reynolds of Geneseo; two sons, John (Karla) Mercer and Jeff (Kristal) Mercer, all of Port Byron; two daughters, Chris Oldfield of Colona and Sue (Bill) Johnson of Lafayette, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Amanda and Tyler Oldfield, Heather and Jacob Johnson, and Ryan, Kayleen and Grace Mercer; and one brother, Robert (Bonnie) Reynolds of Cordova. She was preceded in death by her father; one brother, Mick Reynolds; and one nephew, Brent Reynolds.
