Norris Dean Shanks, 68, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. A memorial service celebrating his life was held Tuesday, Jan. 15 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. A visitation was held prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Norris Shanks Memorial Fund.
He was born on May 8, 1944, in Norfolk, Neb., the son of Wayne and Verle (McFarland) Shanks. He married Margaret DePauw on June 24, 1967, in Geneseo. He worked for Blackhawk Foundry, Davenport Springs, King's Material and for Ralston-Purina as a shipping clerk for 25 years. He enjoyed stock car racing, remodeling cars and fishing. He cherished the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret; two daughters, Melanie (Steve) King of Jacksonville, Fla. and Jenny (Dave) Terronez of Bettendorf; six grandchildren, Kaleb King, Izaak King, Ronin King, Olivia Terronez, Payton Terronez and Joe Terronez; and one sister, Carol Luke of Ankeny, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Fredrick Wayne Shanks; one granddaughter, Alice King; and one brother, Gary Shanks.
