Orion native Amelia Martens was crowned the 2013 Miss Illinois County Fair Queen on Jan. 20 in Springfield. Martens is the reigning Miss Rock Island County Fair Queen.
Seventy queens competed for the title. The pageant was part of the Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs annual convention held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
Martens is the first Miss Rock Island County Fair Queen to win the state title, however she is the second Henry County native to be crowned. In 2011, Jackie Driscoll of Cambridge, who was then the reigning Miss Henry County Fair, won the state pageant.
Martens is a 2010 graduate of Orion High School and is pursuing a degree in agricultural communications at the University of Illinois. Her parents are Patrick and Annette Martens of Orion.
She was first runner-up in the 2012 Miss Henry County Fair pageant held last summer in Cambridge, but had to vacate that title when she was crowned Miss Rock Island County Fair.
As Miss Illinois County Fair, Martens receives gifts including a $1,000 scholarship from Prairie Farms Dairy and she will serve as the official hostess at the 2013 Illinois State Fair which runs Aug. 9-19, in Springfield, and the DuQuoin State Fair, Aug. 24- Sept. 3.
Miss Henry County Fair Kaci Storm, of Geneseo, and Miss Stark County Fair Jozie Allen, of Wyoming, were among the 15 finalists competing for the title in finals Sunday night.
