Mamie L. Boleen, 88, of Geneseo, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Hillcrest Home, Geneseo. Per her request, cremation rites have been accorded and a graveside inurnment service will be held at a later date in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Memorials may be directed to Hillcrest Home or a charity of the donor's choice. Vandemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements.
She was born on Aug. 9, 1924, in East St. Louis, the daughter of Harry and Helen Myrtle (McCredie) Wallar. She was a graduate of Centralia High School, Centralia. She married Beverlee S. Boleen in November 1941 in Geneseo. He died in 1990. She was an optometrist lab assistant for 35 years for Dr. Zimmerman and later worked as a sales associate for both GWK Enterprises and Lambin Jewelers in Geneseo. She belonged to First United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxillary.
Survivors include one son, Monte Boleen of Geneseo; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one sister, Grace Auberry of Centralia. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Hilton Boleen; and one brother, Herbert.
